Parenting with Love and Limits®
Brush Dance Clinic of Virginia was created to give parents of at-risk youth the knowledge, tools and resources needed to deal with situations for which no parent is adequately prepared.
Sometimes, things we don’t even want to say out loud.
The good news is that there is hope. You CAN restore balance in your family. You can move toward healthy change.
The Parenting with Love and Limits® program was designed to help parents gain control over conduct disorders, defiant behavior, and troubled youth.
But it doesn’t happen by itself; and the issues won’t just go away. Help is possible only if you are willing to take the right steps. As a parent, reading this material and understanding your options is the first step and we applaud you for moving in the right direction.
Parenting with Love and Limits® named “Model Program”
The key to resolving juvenile delinquent behavior is parental involvement coupled with the proper skills. If you are willing to involve yourself, we can teach you the skills. Even if your teen refuses to attend, the program can still work for you.
The Parenting with Love and Limits® model, created by the Savannah Family Institute, has recently received special recognition from the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) as a "Model Program." It is recognized as an evidence-based prevention and intervention program that can make a difference in the lives of children and their communities.

The Parenting with Love and Limits® program is designed for those parents who:
- Have trouble maintaining meaningful communication with your teenager
- Find it difficult to set age-appropriate and effective limits for your teen
- Struggle with your emotional reactions to your child's misbehavior
- Have been told by others (e.g., school officials, court authorities, and/or friends) that your teen's behavior needs to be addressed.

Leveraging Your Agency Budget with Client Preparation
Many agencies observe that enormous amounts of their budget are spent on in-home services, sometimes without a corresponding improvement in behavior.
One of the reasons for this is that the family was not yet ready for the services, still wading in the pre-contemplation stage and unwilling to face the problem. Funding expended at this stage will have only one outcome: it will be noted that the family received services.
Brush Dance Clinic offers a solution to this challenge. We provide the Parenting with Love and Limits® program to which you can refer families in the pre-contemplation stage. This is an extremely cost-effective method to help support families and youth through the process of change, while at the same time insuring that comprehensive in-home services only get delivered when the family can and will make use of them.
The goal is for the referring agent to use the parenting group FIRST as a litmus test to discover if the family is ready to change and make use of other services being offered to them. The parenting group will not only evaluate readiness, but can help move the family through the three stages that precede effective treatment:
- Pre-contemplation stage – where a person does not believe they have a problem.
- Contemplation stage – where a person starts to think there may be a problem and they may need to change, but are not ready to work on the issues in the near term.
- Preparation stage – the person begins to identify the problem and plans to act within the next 30 days, accepting encouragement to learn new skills and take small initial steps.
